Australia is both a country and continent. It is the sixth largest country in the world! Australia is known for its unique climate and animals. It also has some snacks that are unique to the island continent. One of those snacks are pikelets. Pikelets are like small pancakes. Australians like to eat them with tea as an afternoon snack. Today you’re going to get to make your very own pikelets!

Mixing bowls (2)
Pan (1)
Recipe ingredients:
1 ½ cup flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 pinch salt
2 Tbsp sugar
1 large egg
1 - 1 ¼ cup milk
1 Tbsp butter, melted
Optional: Honey, jelly/jam, or fruit to top!
Directions
Step 1
Mix the flour, baking powder and salt together into a bowl. Stir in the sugar.
Step 2
In another bowl, beat the egg with 1 cup of the milk and the melted butter.
Step 3
Add the liquid ingredients to the dry ingredients. Stir all the ingredients together. (The mixture should be able to drop off the end of a spoon—if it seems too stiff, add more milk.)
Step 4
Heat a lightly buttered pan on medium heat. Drop small spoonfuls of the mixture onto the pan. When the pikelets bubble, turn and cook the other side. Remove from pan when ready.
Step 5
Enjoy! (Top with honey, fruit, or jelly for an extra sweet snack).
