Museum & Garden Assistant
Part-Time
Position Overview
The Museum & Garden Assistant helps to create and maintain a safe and dynamic environment for children and families, assisting with facility and garden maintenance and occasional exhibit fabrication. This position works closely with the Visitor Experience Team and Exhibit Team, and reports to the Director of Visitor Experience and Human Resources. The Museum & Garden Assistant is flexible in responding to the immediate needs of the organization.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain standards of excellence for Museum and Discovery Garden upkeep
- Works closely with Exhibit Manager and Education Team to develop Educational Gardens; maintain exhibit gardens and garden elements; conduct seasonal planting and crop rotation; maintain butterfly garden and milkweed production; maintain native garden, sensory gardens, compost, worm farm, seed bank
- Coordinate with Exhibits Team and Visitor Services Staff to maintain exhibit and facility standards
- Responsible for ensuring exhibits and facilities are clean, operational, and well maintained; monitor for repairs, hazards, or opportunities for improvement
- Assist in exhibit fabrication and project management
- Assist with exhibit installations and deinstallations
- Assist with workshop cleaning and organization
- Responsible for greenhouse and garden shed cleaning and organization
- Assist with setup and breakdown of Special Events
- Identify gaps, communicate needs to Facilities Coordinator
- Other duties as needed
Qualifications
- Coursework in woodworking, permaculture, landscaping, or other related field desired
- Excellent creative thinking and problem-solving skills, organization and time management required
- Must have excellent attention to detail, written and verbal communication
- Must enjoy working outside
- Must be able to function in a high energy team environment
- Ability to lift and move up 25lbs
- Weekend and evening availability
