Following recent federal, statewide and local guidelines and recommendations regarding social distancing, the Museum is temporarily closed.
Statement from Wendy Taylor, Executive Director (June 12, 2020):
Dear Museum family,
You may have seen the news regarding the reopening of museums, zoos and aquariums in San Diego County, and are likely wondering when San Diego Children's Discovery Museum will welcome families in our facility again.
We've heard your concerns about ensuring a safe experience at our Museum, and you can be assured that when we do reopen it will be with the utmost confidence in our protocols to protect visitors and staff. This is particularly important considering the tactile interactions that take place in our Museum space and the very young age of our visitors.
While are not yet ready to reopen to the public, we are working very hard to redesign the Museum experience, while also staying true to our mission and values. We appreciate your patience. Please know that your memberships will continue to be extended during the time we are closed.
In the interim, we will continue to meet you where you are, with resources to support you and your children. We will continue to provide online programs and events on our social media pages and website, and we will share news about the Museum reopening as it becomes available. Our wonderful team is stable, dedicated and passionate, and we continue to be here to serve you.
Thank you for staying with us during this time.
Here at San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum, your safety and well-being are among our top priorities. We are closely monitoring the developing COVID-19 outbreak and will keep your family in the know as to how your Museum experience may be impacted.
What we are doing:
We are cancelling select special events, and closely monitoring the need to cancel others. For an up-to-date list of cancellations, please see below.
Additionally, we are following recent recommendations issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for minimizing the spread of COVID-19 and have implemented additional precautionary steps. These include:
Increasing the cleaning frequency of the Museum using industry-approved surface disinfectants;
Providing additional hand-sanitizing stations;
Posting additional signage about optimal hand-washing for virus spread prevention.
What you can do:
Give germs the slip by singing while washing hands with soap and water! Health officials say hand-washing is one of the best ways to protect yourself from COVID-19. Regularly scrub with soap and water for 20 seconds — or about the time it takes to sing the “ABC song” from start to finish, or “Happy Birthday” twice;
Avoid touching your face and cough or sneeze into your elbow whenever possible.
We will continue to monitor developments and will update you with any changes or new information as they become known. We also will provide updates on our website, www.SDCDM.org/COVID19-updates.
Thank you for being a part of our Museum family. We wish you and your family health and wellness.
