Following recent federal, statewide and local guidelines and recommendations regarding social distancing, the Museum is temporarily closed.
Statement from Krishna Kabra, Executive Director (October 2020):
Dear Museum family,
Following the recent news of museums, zoos, and aquariums reopening in San Diego County, you are likely wondering when San Diego Children's Discovery Museum will welcome families into our facility again.
We've heard your concerns about ensuring a safe experience at our Museum, and you can be assured that when we do reopen it will be with the utmost confidence in our protocols to protect the health and safety of our visitors and staff. This is particularly important considering the immersive, hands-on nature of our exhibits and the very young age of our visitors.
While we are not yet ready to reopen to the public, we are taking great care to develop a plan that will allow us to safely reopen, while also staying true to our mission and values. We appreciate your patience during this time and we will share news about the Museum reopening as it becomes available.
In the interim, your memberships will continue to be extended for the length of our closure, and we will continue to bring the Museum experience home to you with resources to support you and your children. Our dedicated and passionate team is hard at work creating virtual programs, activities, and events that are available on our social media pages and website.
Thank you for staying with us during this time. We truly cannot wait to welcome you back to the Museum soon!
Warm regards,

Krishna Kabra
Executive Director
Here at San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum, your safety and well-being are among our top priorities, and we continue to closely monitor the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.
What we are doing:
The Museum is temporarily closed to the public and has cancelled all in-person events and activities, but be sure to check out our variety of virtual programs and fun social media content!
Additionally, we are following recommendations issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for minimizing the spread of COVID-19 and have implemented additional precautionary steps. These include:
-
Increasing the cleaning frequency of the Museum using industry-approved surface disinfectants;
-
Providing additional hand-sanitizing stations;
-
Posting additional signage about optimal hand-washing for virus spread prevention.
What you can do:
-
Give germs the slip by singing while washing hands with soap and water. Health officials say hand-washing is one of the best ways to protect yourself from COVID-19. Regularly scrub with soap and water for 20 seconds — or about the time it takes to sing the “ABC song” from start to finish, or “Happy Birthday” twice;
-
Avoid touching your face and cough or sneeze into your elbow whenever possible.
We will continue to monitor developments and will update you with any changes or new information as they become known.
Thank you for being a part of our Museum family. We wish you and your family health and wellness.
