Following recent federal, statewide and local guidelines and recommendations regarding social distancing, the Museum is temporarily closed.
Statement from Wendy Taylor, Executive Director (May 8, 2020):
Dear Museum family,
I hope you are all staying healthy and happy during these unusual times. Our team misses you all very much, and we are excited for the day that we can all be together at the Museum again.
I know the last few weeks have been a challenge for everyone, and we appreciate you staying with us during these uncertain times. You membership and support are crucial to our ability to continue to serve the community with educational resources and activities, even while the museum is closed.
We want you to know that our team is continually assessing our community's situation to determine the best path forward for the Museum. We are working on plans for the museum to reopen when the time is right, and we are preparing for any changes in local circumstances and guidelines around health and safety. In the meantime, our team is working on new exhibits and exciting changes in the Museum for when we are able to open again! The safety of our staff and patrons is at the forefront of every decision being made. We are consulting a number of resources, including the Association of Children's Museums, American Alliance of Museums, Institute of Museum and Library Sciences, and others, to ensure we are taking every angle into account as we develop our plans to reopen to the public.
If you have any questions or would like to connect, please feel free to reach out.
Thank you for continuing to be a part of our museum family. We look forward to seeing you soon.
Here at San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum, your safety and well-being are among our top priorities. We are closely monitoring the developing COVID-19 outbreak and will keep your family in the know as to how your Museum experience may be impacted.
What we are doing:
We are cancelling select special events, and closely monitoring the need to cancel others. For an up-to-date list of cancellations, please see below.
Additionally, we are following recent recommendations issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for minimizing the spread of COVID-19 and have implemented additional precautionary steps. These include:
Increasing the cleaning frequency of the Museum using industry-approved surface disinfectants;
Providing additional hand-sanitizing stations;
Posting additional signage about optimal hand-washing for virus spread prevention.
What you can do:
Give germs the slip by singing while washing hands with soap and water! Health officials say hand-washing is one of the best ways to protect yourself from COVID-19. Regularly scrub with soap and water for 20 seconds — or about the time it takes to sing the “ABC song” from start to finish, or “Happy Birthday” twice;
Avoid touching your face and cough or sneeze into your elbow whenever possible.
We will continue to monitor developments and will update you with any changes or new information as they become known. We also will provide updates on our website, www.SDCDM.org/COVID19-updates.
Thank you for being a part of our Museum family. We wish you and your family health and wellness.
